[And just like that, once the afternoon arrives, Ken wasted no time in making his way to the cafe. Looking around, he stood by the entrance as she waited for a certain teenager. With a sigh, he wondered if he was doing the right thing by asking for a job.

While he knows he's still young, another part of him wants to experience it. It can't be too difficult to manage a job, right?]

[ naoto commends ken for being on time— something he still needs to work on for the most part. but even so, naoto manages to not be too late. he waves a hello to ken, smiling. ]

Heya! Ready to learn about your new job?

[The moment that Ken saw Naoto, he gave a small chuckle before walking over to him.]

I'm as ready as I can be. Tell me, Naoto-san, what am I suppose to do at a cafe?

For the most part, it’s housekeeping— you know, cleaning, serving customers, and making sure people are happy. Makoto-chan and I handle a lot of the baking and food prep.

[ naoto hums as he opens the tea shop to start the day. ] But there are times where you’re going to have to brew tea, large orders or small, so I’ll teach you that, first.

I see. That doesn't sound too different from the jobs that I heard my teammates done before.

[He said before placing his hand on his chin.]

But care to tell me how you brew tea? All I know is that you put hot water with some tea leaves and that's about it. However, there is a certain technique to it right?

Yeah, it’s not too hard once you get the hang of it.

Sure! Here, come behind the counter— I’ll show you. [ he motions ken to do just that, pulling out the necessary items. ]

[And just like that, Ken followed Naoto before leaning a little closer to get a better look at the items. Giving a small frown, he looked back at the older teenager.]

This sure looks a lot like what I would see people do when they make tea back home. Although, I never got a closer look at how it's done...

Even if it looks the same, the technique is what matters. Gotta make sure everything is almost perfect, and depending on the tea, it could be wildly different— from making sure the tea is nice and clean, to even the pot you use!

[ he lifts up the small pot he was using. ] This one is special, as the more you use it, the better your tea tastes. It’s all about what and how you use it, after all.

[ and then he starts the process, starting out by scooping out a bit of black tea from a stash he has on the counter. ] It’s a process, but the tea comes out tasting a lot better than just using a tea bag, yknow?

I didn't realize that the more you use a pot, the better the tea would taste!

[He said before looking at it and then back at Naoto. Giving a nod to himself, he was taking extra notes in his mind to prepare himself!]

How much are you suppose to use? I heard that one cup equals to one scoop but I also know it depends on how rich you want it to taste. It's almost like coffee, right?

It is, yeah! It’s something super cool, really.

[ he pours hot water into the pot and cups, without the tea leaves inside. ] It is one scoop of tea for one cup, yeah, and I keep it that way because I need to make sure I have enough for the day.

[ he then pours out the water after a couple of seconds. ] You also have to warm the pot and cups, ‘cause the water you use to brew’ll grow cold rather quickly, dulling the taste of the tea. Raquel always threw a fit if I forgot…

I didn't know that! But I suppose that explains why tea brewing is a skill people really need to specialize in.

[He said before giving a nod or two.]

But I also guess that's why tea was something I prefer compared to coffee. It's always so bitter compared to tea sometimes!

Believe me, me too! Coffee just doesn’t have the same variety as tea does.

[ he finally puts the tea leaves in and pours in fresh water. ] Oh yeah, don’t add too much water— usually enough to barely cover the leaves is good enough in this kinda teapot. And then it’s just letting it steep!

Is that so? Although it makes sense, most coffee just tastes the same to me.

[He said with a shrug before looking at the pot.] But it looks like I'll have to keep my eye on it the next time around! I didn't realize a lot of water would dampen the taste. I thought it would be the same regardless.

I say the same, but I’m sure there are some people who would deny that.

[ a laugh. ] Yeah, there’s a lot of things that’ll change the taste. The water isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ kind of deal, so you really got to pay attention to that. It’s a weird thing.

Does it depend on what kind of water it is? Would Fuji water or any fresher water change the taste too?

[Because now, he can't help but be curious!]

Yeah, actually. Fresh water, compared to tap, gives it a cleaner taste. Fuji water, on the other hand…

[ he’s unsure if it would change the taste. he’s gonna do some experiments. ]

I don’t know. But now I want to try.

[Somewhere, in the back of his mind, he had a feeling Shinjiro would be screaming at him. On the other hand, Ken didn't seem to care. His curiosity was getting the better of him!]
